Transcription textuelle de la BD Do I have a problem with my eyes ?

The ophthalmologist examines my eyes with a machine.

I sit in front of the machine.

I always sit the same way for every kind of machine:

I lean forward.

I rest my chin on the machine.

I press my forehead gently against the machine.

I look straight in front of me.

I must keep my head still.

The person who accompanies me can help me.

The ophthalmologist looks at my eyes with a bright light.

The light can be uncomfortable, but it doesn’t hurt.

Sometimes the ophthalmologist puts orange coloured eyedrops in my eyes.

See the factsheet « I need to put eyedrops in my eyes ».

The ophthalmologist looks at my eyes again with a blue light.

The ophthalmologist measures the pressure inside my eyes.

To measure the pressure, the ophthalmologist might use:

  • A machine that blows air.
  • Or a machine and a cone.

If the ophthalmologist uses a machine that blows air.

I see a small light: I open my eyes wide.

The machine sends a small puff of air into my eye, then into my other eye.

It might be a surprise, but it doesn’t hurt.

If the ophthalmologist uses a machine with a small cone.

He puts eyedrops into my eyes.

See the factsheet « I need to put eyedrops in my eyes ».

He moves the small cone so it touches my eye.

It is not nice.

But it is very quick.

I count to 5.

The ophthalmologist looks at the back of my eye.

To see the back of my eye, the ophthalmologist put eyedrops in my eye.

See the factsheet « I need to put eyedrops in my eyes ».

I go to the waiting room.

The drops make my pupils bigger.

The pupil is the black circle in the middle of my eye.

When my pupil is big, I see things blurry.

Once my pupil is big, the ophthalmologist comes to see me.

I sit in front of the machine.

The ophthalmologist puts a small lens in front of my eye.

I keep my eyes wide open.

The light can be uncomfortable.

But it doesn’t hurt.

After the examination, I still see things blurry.

After a few hours my eyesight returns to normal.

I need to be accompanied to help me go home.

I must not drive.

If I have a problem with my eyes…

The ophthalmologist can write me a prescription for:

  • Eyedrops.
  • An operation.
  • Medical examinations.
  • Or other eye tests.
